WiFi offload PDF Print E-mail

A typical mobile operator offer today access to multiple networks in one subscription, where WLAN is used to offload the 3G network from traffic in dense areas. The operator’s aim is to packetize the subscription for a one-click service activation including access to all networks.

A challenge is to enable the subscription for a plug-and-play WLAN access, as the credentials to access WLAN is often not the SIM. The operator may activate SIM authentication, if the WLAN network is technically ready for SIM authentication (802.1x), and will in such a scenario avoid expensive and complex integration work between the WLAN and the 3GPP Core.

ServiceFactory offers a solution for easy and “silent” activation of WLAN-credentials (non SIM) through the Orbyte™ Credential Server.

The customer who signs up with mobile broadband will just open the subscription-box, insert the 3G-dongle into the notebook, wait a couple of minutes while the connection software is installed, and thereafter be fully ready to access all networks included in the subscription. No manual procedure is needed from the customer either to enable the service or to authenticate to the network. The process is fully “silent” for the customer.

ServiceFactory’s Orbyte™ Credential Server is designed for easy implementation in the mobile operator’s core network and will silently enable all mobile broadband subscriptions for WLAN access.
